ABOUT PHOEBE
Phoebe Haines is an award-winning British-American Mezzo Soprano, with vocal qualities that have been variously hailed as ‘extraordinary’ (The Times), ‘silvery’ (The Evening Standard), ‘impressive’ (The Los Angeles Times), 'flawless' (The Independent), and ‘opulent’ (Sunday Times Culture). Having achieved a Double First Class Hons Degree from the University of Cambridge, Phoebe has also studied at the Royal College of Music, the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and Tsinghua University. She is a Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Sino-British Fellowship Trust, and the International Opera Awards Foundation.
As a member of the prestigious Young Singers Project (YSP), Phoebe made her main-stage debut at The Salzburg Festival in 2014, in Der Rosenkavalier with the Wiener Philharmoniker. She also sang the role of Tisbe in La Cenerentola für Kinder, and appeared at a number of concerts and event for the festival, including those with the Salzburg Camerata, and at a gala for Teatro Alla Scala at Castell Son Claret, Mallorca. Phoebe has also apprenticed at Aldeburgh Music/ Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme, English National Opera, iSING! Festival China, Opéra de Baugé, Center for Contemporary Opera, Clonter Opera, Songfest Los Angeles, and many more.
Phoebe has captivated audiences in thirty-two countries, and the list continues to grow. Recent solo performance venues include Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Hall, the Suzhou Grand Theatre, Beijing's National Center for Performing Arts, FenJieZhou Amphitheatre in Hainan, the Royal Palace of Bucharest, Chautauqua Festival with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, St. George’s Hanover Square with London Early Opera, Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, Villa Kerylos, Giardini La Mortella, Villa Del Balbianello, Teatro Tempio Sannita, Biblioteca delle Oblate, Montreux Jazz Festival, El Museo del Barrio, Asia House, the Bulgarian, Lebanese, and American Embassies in London, and many British Embassies around the world.

RECENT ENGAGEMENTS
In July 2022, Phoebe joined the Southbank Sinfonia and conductor Simon Over, as part of their 2022 Italian tour, performing Mozart’s beloved concert aria, Ch’io mi scordi di te, alongside world-renowned pianist Tom Poster, at Giardini La Mortella.

Phoebe has had the great honour of singing at a number of large sporting events, including the UK and USA Women's Rugby, and the NFL (National Football League of America). OUTREACH & VOLUNTARY WORKHaving trained at English National Opera in 2014-15, Phoebe is delighted to continue her relationship with the company as a Vocal Mentor for ENO Baylis, working with the Youth Programme on a number of educational projects since
2017. She is also passionate about her work with Streetwise Opera, an award-winning performing arts charity for people affected by homelessness. Other organisations for which Phoebe has been a passionate volunteer and fundraiser include: Harlem Educational Activities Fund, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Help Them Help Us, Official Navajo Nation Covid Relief Fund, National Domestic Violence Hotline, and many more. During the Covid19 pandemic of 2020, Phoebe garnered international media attention when a video of her singing from her London balcony was posted by the Evening Standard. Videos of her balcony concerts were published by around 200 international press agencies, and she was able to raise funds for Streetwise Opera and Help Musicians UK, whilst providing live music to those closest to her in Stratford, London. Her efforts were recognised in the form of billboards posted around London during in Spring/ Summer 2020. |
CHINA PROJECTS & TV PRESENTINGPhoebe made her Chinese debut in 2016, when she was selected as the UK Representative at iSING! International Artists Festival, Suzhou. Phoebe returned to iSING! Festival in Summer 2018, touring with the Suzhou Symphony Orchestra. Phoebe has appeared as a featured artist in a number of musical programmes in China, including 诗词中国 , and 世界听我说.
Phoebe has been lucky to sing alongside Chinese artists of great renown, including Operatic Bass, Hao Jiang Tian 田浩江, pop singer, Ping An平安, and Pipa master Dr. Cheng Yu 程玉. Phoebe was made a Fellow of the Sino-British Fellowship Trust in 2016, and appeared as a guest artist at the ‘United We Stand’ Event, at London’s Guildhall in February 2020. Phoebe hosted the CSSAUK/ Chinese Embassy Spring Festival Gala in both 2020 and 2021, and was the cohost for 'Chinese New Year: Year of the Ox' on London Live in 2021. She was an official translator for CCTV’s 2022 Chinese Language Day Special Programme, and was the host of CCTV’s ‘Beijing Olympics 100 Day Countdown Concert’, filmed in Switzerland and Germany in October 2021, receiving an international viewership of around 800 million. |

She currently studies with garlanded Australian soprano, Jennifer McGregor, in London. Past teachers include: Mollie Petrie, Kathleen Livingstone, Ruth Falcon, and John Llewellyn Evans.
